Ola Electric's founder, Bhavish Aggarwal, recently addressed the controversy involving their new mapping service and a legal notice from MapMyIndia.
Aggarwal told MoneyControl, “MapMyIndia’s actions are opportunistic, and there are always such players around. We will address this issue when the time is right.”
Earlier this month, Ola Electric launched its own mapping service called Ola Maps, which replaces Google Maps for its navigation needs. The company also stopped using Google Maps and switched to its in-house mapping solution.
However, MapMyIndia, the company that previously provided navigation services for Ola Electric's S1 Pro electric scooter, has sent a legal notice accusing Ola Electric of copying their data. MapMyIndia claims that Ola Electric violated their license agreement by mixing their data with competing products and trying to reverse-engineer their software.
MapMyIndia alleges that Ola Maps improperly saved and used their data, which they say breaches the terms of their agreement. They have warned of taking legal action, both civil and criminal, against Ola Electric.
In response, Ola Electric firmly denies these accusations, calling them false and misleading. They emphasize that their business practices are above board and promise to respond to the legal notice soon.
